"Home From Home"

ARONEL COTTAGE is a family owned and run Care Home (N) , with Registered Nurses on duty 24-hours a day. We can accept either residents who require only personal care or nursing care, for as long as we can meet their needs within the home's registration. We try our best to have a cheerful, homely atmosphere. Recently celebrating 30 years caring for the elderly, it is our aim "to be recognised as one of the best family-run care homes in Bognor Regis".

We are proud to have been awarded a 3 Star Rating (the higest possible) from the inspection authority.

Formerly a small, private school, the building has been extensively modernised and upgraded and the current registration is 38. The Home has pleasant, South facing, well maintained gardens and is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, close to the town centre, Hotham Park and public transport,
(See Contact & Location)

Our recently extended and refurbished 'L' shaped, South/West facing lounge area now has several nooks and crannies for residents' privacy or socialising and extensive window area. Some visitors have commented that "it is like sitting in the garden".

Our accommodation consists of 34 single rooms and 2 twin rooms, many recently refurbished with 19 rooms with en-suite. We like to think that all these rooms are tastefully decorated and colour co-ordinated. All rooms are fitted with a TV point, night light and British Telecom point and a modern Audio Nurse Call System for emergencies.

Residents are encouraged to bring personal effects and a few small items of furniture with them to make them feel "at home". Residents' rooms and possessions are private and personal and we shall ensure that they are always regarded in this way. Nearly all rooms are fitted with locks, except rooms 4, 9, 12 & 26. Staff knock at the door before entering.

Most residents bring in their own TVs and radios because they are familiar with their operation, but the Home can provide a portable TV set, if requested. TV licences are free.

Our links with the local community are particularly strong, including local churches, Bognor Swimming Club, The Chestnuts and Laburnum Day Centres, Bognor Golf Club, Art of Dance and South Downs Gliding Club.

We have no smoking and no resident pets policies.

Housekeeping
Marilyn, our full time Housekeeper and her Domestic Team are responsible for the general cleanliness and tidiness of the Home and they also look after residents' clothing and linen, washing as necessary. "One person doing one job" means that there are few problems with lost or damaged laundry. Avoidable damage or loss of any article will be paid for by the Home.

Many visitors comment that they notice a distinct lack of 'odour' which is all to the credit of Marilyn and her team.

A clothing repair service is also available (small cost to resident).

Fire
The building complies to current Fire Regulations with Notices and Fire Extinguishers located at top and bottom of stairs and being easy to find. Fire Exits are clearly marked, but if in doubt, please ask. We have always given Fire Training high priority. Training for staff is organised
every six months.

We embarked on the Investors in People award in September 1998, having been told after an initial audit, that the philosophy of the Home at that time encompassed at least 50% of what was required to achieve the award. We decided to take on the challenge and first gained the Award in September, 1999, and were re-awarded in 2002 & 2005. When people ask "what is Investors in People", one explanation is that it is "listening business implementing change & providing staff development". Care Awards © 2005 Aronel Cottage Ltd | aip
