Activities

Meaningful activities, resident-led choices and community connection Active Minds

We have a planned activity almost every weekday. The home has a separate budget of £13,000 per annum to employ outside agencies to come in for a dedicated activity and as a result, it is unusual to cancel. These activities are varied and professional for example; Singers, Instrumental performers, Quizzes, Bingo, Garden Club, Dog Therapy, Bognor Regis Hand Bell Ringers, Choirs (Salvation Army, RAFA 831 Choir & the Local School). Residents decide on the activities they enjoy and who to employ again. Forthcoming events are displayed on the residents’ notice board.

Activities

  • Reminiscence Therapy: with Sharon Baker, her sessions are always well attended.
  • Garden Club: with Tony Lucas, residents are encouraged to plant seeds and Tony brings the plants back weekly to show progress and discuss other lovely plant life, very interesting sessions
  • Quarterly Resident’s Meetings: Tony Lucas & Sharon Baker chair two meetings each per year.  Residents feel comfortable having the discussions making suggestions regarding their lives at Aronel Cottage
  • Hobbies such as knitting and other indoor activities etc. are all encouraged and we are open to any other suggestions. Relatives are welcome to join in or help with any of the activities.
Cost of hobby equipment and materials are usually met by the home but sometimes residents are asked to make small contribution to the staff social fund.
  • Cinema: We have an 80-inch 4k Sonus Surround screen, which we can use to host a cinema afternoon. Visitors are welcome, popcorn and refreshments are also served.
  • Annual: Family BBQ
  • Religious Services: Brother John Burnett – Membership Officer for Our Lady of Sorrows, visits each Friday to give communion for practicing residents. Should any resident require alternative religious arrangements, we will be happy to contact the service to request a visit.
